Chapter 6
Starting Over
They had small talk as they waited for their meals. Both worried about the discussions soon to come. Him about the blue spark and her about explaining how she already kind of knows about it. Dinner came and it was perfect. They ate and talked. She told him that she worked for the IRS, but nothing more, she explained some parts of her job and described her apartment. He would listen. Diane watched as he took a bite of food, carefully dab his lips with the napkin, then listen intently. He’s wonderful she thought.

Joe told her about the music box. He talked about how he fixed it specifically for her. He told her he played it anticipating the current date. He told her she should get it and take it home. It needs a fresh start of love, he soothingly remarked, it’s really beautiful and it deserves a new start. Oh, yes, don’t we all, she smiled.
The walk home turned dangerous as on two occasions Joe got to close for comfort. Diane was not going to let him touch her, not yet at least. The night was perfect and she planned on keeping it that way.
